Game Prediction:
NYG 7, NO 24
Update:
Ike Hilliard remains doubtful to play and David Tyree is expected
to get his first NFL start. Jeremy Shockey and Marcellus Rivers
are both not expected to play. Jesse Palmer will be the starting
quarterback. This is not shaping up well for the Giants in
any form or fashion.
The Giants were already ugly and now will likely not have
Collins or Hilliard this week. The Saints proved that they
were nothing special in their home loss to Tampa Bay last
Sunday but against the Giants they would almost have to try
to lose in order to let the Giants achieve anything.
NY Giants Notes
The Giants fall to 4-8 on the season and have lost their
last five games.
Quarterbacks::
The bad only gets worse. Kerry Collins suffered what
was diagnosed as a high ankle sprain and will give way to
Jesse Palmer this week. Palmer threw 7 of 11 for 83 yards
last week in that way trash time quarterbacks come in and
look promising. He did lose one fumble... of course.
Running Backs: Tiki
Barber (AKA "the last working piece") ran for
99 yards on 16 carries last week and added 47 yards on three
catches but set the tone last week with a lost fumble on the
very first series. He now has six on the season. Dorsey
Levens came in and scored the only touchdown in the game
on a short run, his first score in the past month.
Receivers: Amani
Toomer had two catches for 30 yards while Ike Hilliard
had only 15 yards on his two catches. Hilliard also sustained
a sprained knee and will likely miss this week against the
Saints. Tim Carter led receivers with three catches
for 42 yards before, of course, sustaining his third mild
concussion in four weeks.
The Giants expected playoff season has turned into a "last
man left standing" affair and that survivor pool is getting
more shallow every week.
Match against the Defense: Considering
that the offensive couldn't hold out the defense even if they
were allowed baseball bats, it doesn't really matter here.
Palmer is a relative unknown in game experience and may have
little more than Toomer and Barber to catch a pass.
Two of the last three visiting quarterbacks never scored
and in the past ten weeks, no visitor has exceeded 213 yards
and that was Brad Johnson last week with actual blockers around
him.
This is shaping up to be the best shot at a shutout that
the Saints may have for a long time.
New Orleans Notes
The Saints fall to 6-7 and quite probably eliminate their
chance to reach a wildcard. At best, they will need luck and
for JAX and DAL to stop trying in weeks 16 and 17.
Quarterbacks::
Aaron Brooks is in jeopardy of losing his starting
spot if he does not stop losing fumbles according to HC Jim
Haslett. His ten lost fumbles is tops in the entire league
and he had three last week. He only has six interceptions
on the season. Facing the Giants should be just what he needs.
Running Backs: Deuce
McAllister failed last week in his bid to reach ten consecutive
100+ yard games and ended with only 69 yards on 22 carries
against a surprisingly motivated Bucs defense that had already
allowed him 110 in Tampa Bay back in week nine.
Receivers: Last week
Joe Horn finally got over 100 yards after five games
below 76 yards. He had nine catches for 118 yards while the
only other wideout with a catch was Jerome Pathon with only
eight yards and one reception.
Boo Williams caught the one touchdown pass and had
59 yards on four catches. That makes the third consecutive
game in which he has scored. Between he and Horn, they had
19 of the 30 throws Brooks made last week.
Donte Stallworth is doubtful to play this week and
by this point it does not even matter why.
Match against the Defense:
The Giants have not allowed but two 100 yard runners this
season but by a schedule quirk they have faced almost entirely
no big time runners. McAllister should be a lock for 100 yards
this week and could add in some decent passing yards as well.
Brooks will face a defense that has only recovered one quarterback
fumble in the past eight games. Not only has every quarterback
thrown a touchdown in the past seven games, five of them had
at least two. Look for a nice day from Brooks as well who
should be able to hook up with, again, most likely Horn and
Pathon. Boo Williams faces a team that has allowed only one
score to a tight end the entire season.
