Game Prediction:
NYG 0, DAL 24
The Giants are without Collins and likely Hilliard or Shockey
this week and regardless, it would not matter since they have
the worst offensive line in the league. The Cowboys are in
their final homegame of the season other than a potential
wildcard game and the defense will be plenty to make the misery
continue for the beleaguered G-man.
NY Giants Notes
The Giants fall to only 4-10 on the season and have lost
their last six games. They no longer merely lose games but
are now being humiliated as displayed by the 45-7 thrashing
in New Orleans where Joe Horn was calling Dominos delivery
to order a real defense.
Quarterbacks::
Jesse Palmer played decent enough in the rare times
that the Giants had the ball last week, completing 15 of 26
passes for 140 yards and one score with no turnovers. Kerry
Collins missed last week with a high ankle sprain and while
he may be ready this week, HC Jim Fassel has said that he
may keep Collins sidelined if he is not mobile enough to avoid
the certain crushing beating due any Giants quarterback.
Running Backs: Tiki Barber
only gained 37 yards on 11 carries and had five catches
for 33 yards. To ensure that he would have minimal fantasy
value, Dorsey Levens came in for the only touchdown in the
game. Barber only gained 41 yards in his previous meeting
with the Cowboys.
Receivers: This is just
not pretty, Amani Toomer had two catches for 20 yards
last Sunday compared to 204 yards and three scores last season
in week 16. Other than his one long touchdown catch in Buffalo,
Toomer has done nothing in the last six games. Ike Hilliard
was out last week but only had a high of 43 yards in the previous
five games anyway.
Both Toomer and Hilliard had big games in their last meeting
with Dallas but that was long ago on a team that no longer
exists. I am assuming Hilliard and Shockey do not play this
week but will update as warranted.
Match against the Defense: This
could be a shutout.
Dallas has the corners to take out Toomer and any one else
even if Palmer gets time to throw. Dallas is vying for a playoff
spot and the Giants have given up. Plain and simple.
Dallas Notes
Dallas rises to 9-5 with their shutout of the Redskins last
week.
Quarterbacks::
Quincy Carter only completed 10 of 24 passes last week
for 108 yards against the decent secondary of Washington.
He threw one touchdown to Richie Anderson but the Cowboys
were in a rushing game plan the entire game. In his last meeting
against the Giants, Carter had his biggest game of his career,
throwing for 321 yards and rushing for one score.
Running Backs: Troy Hambrick
had a career game last week when he ran for 189 yards on 33
carries, giving him his third 100 yard game of the season.
Hambrick only gained 60 yards on 23 carries in his previous
meeting with the Giants in a game that featured the pass more
than the run. Richie Anderson scored once last week on a short
pass while Eric Bickerstaff had only once carry for a touchdown
when Hambrick took a breather on the sideline after a long
run.
Receivers: With minimal
passing last week, the receivers had no significant numbers
but back in week three, Terry Glenn had 113 yards and
Antonio Bryant turned in 98 yards. Dallas will be able
to pass this week but any of the three receivers could benefit.
Match against the Defense: Because
someone on the Giants staff said that it could not get any
worse, -CB Ralph Brown injured his shoulder last week and
is doubtful to play and CB Kato Serwanga reinjured his hip
and knee Sunday. That favors all the receivers but likely
Glenn a little more. Horn had four touchdowns last week playing
the same position as Galloway but Joey has been pretty quiet
this season.
Hambrick will face a defensive front that is still playing
pretty well. They held McAllister to only 80 yards and should
do the same to Hambrick. With the Giants secondary in shambles,
passing is the way to have fun against New York.
