This mock auction was conducted by twelve fantasy football
fanatics from our message boards. It was based on a league
using standard performance scoring, bidding with a $200 salary
cap on 16 player rosters. It had a blend of very experienced
and rookie auction bidders. To determine how these values
would play out in your salary cap, just take the auction value
here and multiply it by .005 and then multiply that number
(percent) against your salary cap to see what the percentage
of your cap would be an equivalent.
For example - Portis went for $64 here and your salary cap
is $600. That translates into (64 x .005) x 600 = $192

This distribution of how money was applied to positions across
the league is fairly representative of what happens in a standard
performance league. This shows quarterbacks being valued fairly
lowly considering their impact to scoring but with only one
starter, almost all the money went to the top 12. It appears
that there were some very nice values at quarterback after
the first five were taken.
Runningbacks and Wide Receivers were very highly valued since
they score well and two starters are needed. Tight Ends were
surprisingly high for those top three considering in this
scoring they make only a marginal difference even with the
best ones. This is representative though in leagues that require
tight ends, since all it takes are three individuals that
really want a "name" tight end to drive up the initial
prices.
Place kickers and defenses had no love in this auction and
in this scoring system - that is probably smart.
If you want two good running backs or a top level wide receiver
- break out the checkbook early.
