IDP Report - Week 2
Brent Clement
September 16, 2004

What the Heck Happened

NYG MLB Nick Greisen lost his starting position to Kevin Lewis.

Miami MLB Zach Thomas who was questionable payed off big for those who chanced it, and started him.

Packers CB Mike McKenzie is expected to report to the team today and will get snaps in practice this week. It debatable if he is in good enough football shape to play significant minutes this weekend.

Who’s Hot

Defensive Linemen

CLE Kenard Lang - may have had the best fantasy day of his career. Part of that has to be attributed to All-Pro OL Jonathon Ogden missing the game, but 3 sacks and a forced fumble is eye opening.

OAK Tyler Brayton - This second year player just makes plays. As a LB he is useless, but if your league has him eligible as a DL pick him up. 4 tackles, 2 pass defense, and a sack, makes him a quality starter.

DET Shaun Rogers - was very active all day long, he accounted for 3 tackles, a blocked FG, a fumble recovery, a sack and an assist. This former longhorn has all the tools, but has yet to put it all together. This may be the year.

Linebackers

NOS Courtney Watson - Wow, first game of his career he starts for the Saints defense and puts up 8 tackles, and 3 assists. This rookie is only going to get better. If somehow he is on your waiver wire, pick him up right away.

OAK Travian Smith - picked right back up where he left off last yr before getting injured and finshed the season on injured reserve. 7 tackles, 4 assists, a pass defense, and a fumble recovery. Not a bad days work.

NYG Kevin Lewis - started in front of Nick Griesen and posted impressive numbers in only his 3 rd start of his short career. Lewis ended the day with 7 solo tackles, 1 assist, and 1 sack. Whoever roams the middle of the NYG defense should put up impressive numbers, right now that is Lewis.

Defensive Backs

MIN - Antonie Winfield - I want to knock this kid every chance I get. He’s only 5’9 and he is getting better as a CB which usually results in fewer opportunities as QB’s look elsewhere, but I have to give Winfield props. He puts up monster numbers and I’m sure Steel Bunz is glad she didn’t listen to me this off season. Winfield had 10 solo tackles, 2 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and an assist for good measure. Winfield is on par for another top 10 finish at the DB position as a CB, which is rare.

PHI - Michael Lewis - had a career day. 10 solos tackles, 2 assists, and 2 pass defense. He’s definitely one to watch and if he is somehow available, Id snag him before the competition gets him.

CIN - Madieu Williams - another rookie posting a huge day in his first game. Williams had 8 tackles, a pass defense, and an assist.

Who’s Not

Defensive Linemen

Packer DL - Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was held without a stat this week. He played the full game, but didn’t record as much as and assist.

Rams DL - Leonard Little had a one assist this weekend. He was a force in the game, causing a lot of pressure on the QB, but was held sack less.

Dolphins DL - Jason Taylor had only one tackle in Saturdays game vs. the Titans. I’m not saying bench these studs but recognize they had trouble in week 1.

Linebackers

Falcons LB Chris Draft had a very disappointed debut at MLB posting only a single tackle, and an assist

Raiders LB Napolean Harris, Pitt LB Kendrell Bell, and Redskins LB Michael Barrow, all sat last weekends contests with various injuries. All 3 are still questionable for week 2, so beware.

Seahawks LB Anthony Simmons also had a disappointing day recording only 3 solo tackles. Better days are coming for all these stud LB’s

Defensive Backs

Redskins DB Sean Taylor recorded just a single assist after posting impressive numbers in the preseason.

Patriots DB Ty Law was having trouble with his hamstring and only posted 1 tackle. The pats still managed to hold Marvin Harrison to only 44 yards on 7 receptions and a lone TD.

Lions DB Dre Bly injured his knee in Sundays game and is expected to miss 2 more weeks.

Key Injuries

Defensive Linemen

Baltimore DL Kelly Gregg suffered a knee injury in Week 1's game against the Cleveland Browns, according to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, and is expected to miss 2 weeks of action.

Linebackers

Mark Zukerman of the Washington Times reports Washington Redskins LB Michael Barrow took part in some practice drills Wednesday, Sept. 15, but continues to be listed as questionable. Barrow is a huge risk this week. I’ look elsewhere.

Defensive Backs

Indy SS Mike Doss injured his hamstring in Week 1’s contest with the New England Patriots and is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
