HOU (4-4) vs IND (5-3)

Game Prediction: HOU 27, IND 34

At 4-4, the Texans have a theoretical shot at the division championship and only trail these Colts and the Jaguars. But the Colts swept the Texans last year and in Denver last week, the Broncos stepped up and proved that Houston still has a way to go before being a big road team.

The Colts might be tired from all that scoring on Monday night, but this is a home game and the visiting Texans shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Pre-Game Notes - HOU

The Texans faced a good pass defense last week and reverted back to their 2003 form - heavy use of Domanick Davis, ineffective passing and eventually a loss.

Quarterback: David Carr had scored in six straight games until last week when he only completed 22 of 41 for 245 yards. But he has only one interception in the last five weeks and against the softest pass defense in the world, he'll be bouncing back this week.

Running Backs: Domanick Davis had two scores last week but only gained 71 yards on 19 carries and added 19 yards on two receptions. The previous week he had 22 carries for 56 yards against the Jaguars and Jonathan Wells' role has been decreasing since his big week six game against the Titans. While the Texans are also rolling Tony Hollings in as well, this offense has returned to a heavier use of Davis who has had 41 carries in the last two weeks. We'll see how long he lasts until his next injury.

Wide Receivers: Andre Johnson comes off his worst game of the year and he only had three catches for 28 yards in Denver. Champ Bailey was successful, Johnson was not. Jabar Gaffney had 86 yards on six catches which makes three straight games over 85 yards for him.

Corey Bradford is still around, but after scoring in week eight he quickly returned to his standard one catch game.

Tight Ends: For the first time all year, no Houston tight end had a catch last week. And they've never scored this year anyway.

Match Against the Defense: Fire up the points bus, we're heading to Indy!

Domanick Davis could easily have his best game of the season here, the limiting factor is how quickly the Colts score and force the Texans to a pass-heavy approach to catch up. Davis is safe enough for a good game with a shot of an outstanding one.

Expect that David Carr will likely have his best game of the season since almost all quarterbacks have when they play the Colts. Indianapolis has allowed at least 27 points in each of the past three weeks, the question is how the opponent will have to score. Chances are good the Colts get the lead and force Carr to throw which should be a bonanza for both Andre Johnson and Jabar Gaffney.

Pre-Game Notes - IND

After losing two close games to the Jaguars and Chiefs, the Colts finally turned the ship around with a three point win over the Vikings who were without Randy Moss. This is a great offense balanced by a very bad defense. What a wonderful thing, indeed.

Quarterback: Peyton Manning has 26 touchdowns in only eight games. There are NBA players with less points than Manning. It's been a month since he only had two scores in a game.

Running Backs: All the prolific passing has cut into Edgerrin James production. Rushing yards only though. James has only once failed to gain over 100 total yards in a game and he never shares much with James Mungro or Dominic Rhodes. The only aspect lacking for James is scoring - he has only five touchdowns on the season and none in the last three weeks.

Wide Receivers: Marvin Harrison didn't score last week but he had four touchdowns in the previous two games and seven on the year in only eight games. Reggie Wayne did score on Sunday but he only had 22 yards on three catches for his lowest yardage of the season. He already has six scores for 2004. This duo is as good as it gets in the NFL.

Tight Ends: Though they had been productive this season, Manning gave the tight ends their best game yet with two scores thrown to Marcus Pollard and one to Dallas Clark. They still rarely have much yardage but when Harrison and Wayne are covered, Manning has the confidence to look for them in the endzone.

Match Against the Defense: So far, matching up the defense hasn't really mattered. The Houston rushing defense has allowed four 100 yard rushers already this season. In games against good passing teams, Culpepper had 396 yards and five scores. This could get ugly, at least we all hope.
