MIA (1-9) vs SF (1-9)

Game Prediction: MIA 24, SF 7

You just cannot schedule such a great game intentionally. Two 1-9 teams vying for that first pick in the NFL draft (though both would likely trade it away if they get it).

This game is zen question "does one hand clapping make any noise?". And the answer is "no".

Pre-Game Notes - MIA

The Dolphins are easily the best 1-9 team in the NFL. There's not a lot else to say about a team with no coach and a quarterback that makes the highlight reel only because he winces when he grabs his own butt.

Quarterback: A.J. Feeley was injured last week with a deep bruise to his right hip and had to leave the game. Since these are the 2004 Dolphins, that mean that Jay Fiedler had to come into the game and suffer a herniated disc that now has him on injured reserve and likely gone forever from Miami if not the NFL. Feeley returned to the game and played like someone who had been caught stealing an apple pie and taken behind the woodshed for some attitude adjustment. While the season has truly kicked Miami's butt in so many ways, only Feeley has the bruise to prove it.

I am assuming that Feeley plays this week since Sage Rosenfels is now the #2 quarterback and it would be a bad career move for him to play with this team. Realistically - this might be one of the very few weeks that a Dolphin QB has fantasy value because they are facing the 49ers.

Running Backs: While Travis Minor and Sammy Morris have been sharing time, Morris will be questionable this week with a rib injury. I am assuming that Minor gets the start and will not have to share.

Wide Receivers: Marty Booker is playing with a sprained ankle and hamstring strain and only had 24 yards last week. Chris Chambers has experienced a rejuvenation this past month with three 100 yard games and two touchdowns. Derrius Thompson had 51 yards last week but only had one catch in each of the previous three games. Two of those were his only touchdowns on the season. With Booker ailing, Thompson is getting more calls though not enough to give him much fantasy value.

Tight Ends: Randy McMichael has been blocking mostly in the last three weeks and has not exceeded 43 yards receiving. He has not scored since week eight.

Match Against the Defense: This is all predicated on the health of Feeley and realistically, if something bad can happen to the Dolphins, it probably will. Proceed warned.

Feeley goes against a secondary that has allowed eight touchdowns in the last three weeks and that was in addition to multiple rushing scores. The 49ers have allowed 114 total points in only the last three weeks against SEA, CAR and TB which all had season high games when they played. There is no reason why Minor should not turn in at least a moderate yardage day with a chance for a very good one. There have been only two teams all year that didn't score rushing touchdowns. This is as good as it will get for the Fins offense. Expect that Feeley will throw for at least 200 and two scores unless his hip bothers him too much. You may never get a chance to play Miami players again this year outside of Chambers.

Pre-Game Notes - SF

Well. They do have sourdough bread and the best wine in the country.

Quarterback: For a while, Tim Rattay appeared to step up and fill the trashtime role that creates great fantasy situations. That time is over. Rattay is hampered by a forearm injury that will likely require surgery in the offseason but continues to play because otherwise they have to use Ken Dorsey who used three starts to throw no touchdowns and four interceptions with two lost fumbles. Shame really.

Running Backs: Kevan Barlow is not only sharing time with the previous practice squad player Maurice Hicks, he gets to watch Hicks run better than Kevan has. In fairness, Hicks has been getting rushing yards late in games when they 49ers have no business running. The reality is there is no rushing game in San Francisco.

Wide Receivers: Brandon Lloyd had four scores in five weeks but only managed one catch for seven yards against the Buccaneers. Say hello to Patrick Surtain. Cedrick Wilson only had one catch for eight yards last week. Say hello to Sam Madison.

Tight Ends: Eric Johnson faced a good defense in Tampa Bay and reeled off only one big catch for nine yards.

Match Against the Defense: With Barlow ineffective and Rattay hurt, this team is in a shambles. it wouldn't be bad if they actually had a decent defense but they don't. It is one of the worst. This is Def Con 5 time in San Francisco and they are trying to defend themselves with badminton racquets and nerf balls.

The only break they are catching, if it even happens, is that MLB Zach Thomas may not play this week. It if even matters. If any player on this team has a chance to score, it will be Eric Johnson over the middle, particularly if Thomas is gone.
