NO (7-8) vs CAR (7-8)

Game Prediction: NO 30, CAR 31

This is a rematch of week 13 when the Panthers won 32-21. Both teams are in the race for the final NFC wildcard and since this is an early game, there's no way of knowing what will impact the winner and loser. Just win is all that both teams will be concerned about this week.

Pre-Game Notes - NO

The Saints are on a three game winning streak that included two road games in Dallas and Tampa Bay. They actually have a better record on the road (4-3) than they do at home (3-5).

Quarterback: Aaron Brooks had one of his best games of the year just three weeks ago when he threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns against the Panthers. He's scored in each of the last 11 games and has picked up a nasty interception habit with five of the last six games having at least two picks in each.

Running Backs: Deuce McAllister only ran for 22 yards on seven carries in the last meeting with the Panthers since the game score was quickly out of reach and the rushing game was abandoned. But he's coming off a season high 128 yards last week and has been good for at least 25 carries in each of the last three wins. He's finally completely healthy and the Saints are relying heavily on him once again.

Wide Receivers: Joe Horn had his best fantasy game of 2004 when he faced the Panthers three weeks ago and ended with 160 yards and two touchdowns. Donte Stallworth also scored a touchdown though he only managed 44 yards on three catches. Horn has scored in two of the three games since as has Stallworth. The Saints are passing well since that last meeting and it all started with that Carolina game.

Tight Ends: 20 yards, no scores. Like clockwork, really. Williams even had three catches for 24 yards in the last meeting with Carolina.

Match Against the Defense: The Panther defense has been good against the run and allowed only one rushing score in the last six weeks. Look for Mcallister to start fairly well but the second half to be all about the pass with Brooks joining the last three other quarterbacks that had multiple scores against the Panthers. This game should turn more into a shootout than the first one was.

Horn and Stallworth both have already scored on the Panthers this season and for whatever reason, the Saints are no playing even better on the road.

Pre-Game Notes - CAR

The Panthers are only 3-4 at home but are in the driver's seat for the wildcard with a win here. They went to the Superbowl last year and have a chance to end up 8-8 on the year. This is a big game.

Quarterback: Jake Delhomme threw for 294 yards and one score in the last meeting with the Saints. and he's logged seven touchdowns in the last three weeks. Delhomme is red-hot again and the visiting Saints in a must-win game should be a great setting for a shootout.

Running Backs: Nick Goings had his best yardage game of the year when he faced the Saints in week thirteen and ran for 122 yards on 36 carries with one touchdown. He also added 46 yards on six catches. He's either scored a touchdown or gained 100 yards in every game since - of not both.

Wide Receivers: Muhsin Muhammad has been big this season, but never bigger than three weeks ago when he had 179 yards against the Saints though he only scored once. Keary Colbert only had one catch in the last meeting. Muhammad had five scores in the last four games and never ended with less than 98 yards. Colbert has almost disappeared since the week 12 though he scored last week. Colbert has a sprained ankle from the Tampa Bay game last week but is considered likely to play this week.

Tight Ends: Kris Mangum only had 21 yards on two catches in the last meeting with the Saints but had one touchdown two weeks ago when he had a season high 53 yards against the Falcons.

Match Against the Defense: The Saints defense has been playing very well the last several weeks and could bring down these projections. It's almost impossible to explain, but they have only allowed one passing score in the last three games. This game has a 46 point over/under but it should produce that with ease. Both these offenses are playing as well as they have all season and while the defenses have both stepped up, they can hold out for only so long.
