Denver (10-6) at Indianapolis (12-4)
Game Prediction: DEN 21, IND 31
(Line - Colts by 10)
These two teams played a meaningless game last week in Denver but this time around all the Colts will be playing and the Broncos just to need win yet another game to stay alive.
Played inside the dome in Indy this game will be much faster and will return the focus to passing with some nice probable runs by Tatum Bell who has the speed to rip off a long run or two unlike the slower though more powerful Droughns.
Jake Plummer has been getting praise from HC Mike Shanahan lately, but his last two games (292, 1 TD - 303, 2 TD) were against the Chiefs and Titans. He still had three interceptions in those game and the two games before that he only managed 219 yards, no scores and two interceptions against the Dolphins and then 278 yards, no scores and four interceptions in San Diego. He's more likely to have more problems on the fast track in Indy than to replicate his KC or TEN performances. Plummer only had 10 scores on the road this year and that includes games against CIN, NO, TEN and KC.
The best chance that Plummer has for a decent game here is if trash time starts unusually early. While Bell in particular may be able to run well, the question is how long he'll get to carry the ball when the scoreboard demands long passing. But since Bell catches the ball as well, he's still likely to turn in a very good game.
The Broncos have not played in a dome yet this season so it will be somewhat a different environment than they've had this season. The Denver pass defense is better this year but that's hard to match up against a team with three great wideouts to cover. There's always the question who Champ Bailey will cover and while he gets pitted on Harrison unless they moved him around. But Bailey has been burned before this season and the matchup takes all new facets against the Colts anyway.
Edgerrin James will figure in here since three of the four biggest running back performances against the Broncos were on the road. The Broncos are going to have plenty of trouble covering receivers to worry about stopping the run as well. Manning has no records to chase - he'll just do whatever works.
