NYJ (10-6) vs PIT (15-1)
Game Prediction: NYJ 7, PIT 24
(Line - Steelers by 9)
The Jets come off a big win over the Chargers for the second time this season and head to play the Steelers again. Difference is that while they scored 20 and 34 points against the Chargers this season, they only managed two field goals in the loss in Pittsburgh back in week 14.
Chad Pennington only had 189 yards and three interceptions that week while Curtis Martin was held to only 72 yards on 24 carries. It was a defensive game to be sure, even Roethlisberger only threw for 144 yards and two interceptions while Duce Staley was held to only 51 yards on 16 carries and Jerome Bettis gained 57 yards on ten carries with one score. Bettis also had one trick play where he threw a touchdown to Jerame Tuman.
The weather for this weekend is expected to be possible snow showers with a temperature around 25 degrees. Just the proper cold weather for a Steelers home game and one that should mirror the defensive nature of the matchup. The Steelers will have Plaxico Burress this time and Antwaan Randle El has at least received some increased playing time while subbing for Burress the last month and a half.
Pennington will be playing in Pittsburgh where there has only been one passing touchdown allowed in the last four games which includes both McNabb and Pennington himself. There should not be any more passing than the 190 yards that he had back in week 14 and the weather will be worse this time around.
Martin has to run where there has only been two rushing scores allowed all season and only once did any runner gain more than the 72 yards that Martin posted in week 14. This will be a defensive matchup that the Jets will not post many fantasy points or real points for that matter.
The Steelers go against an above average defense of the Jets but they've been resting up and planning for this week. Perhaps not planning for the Jets, but after the upset win last week it won't be too hard to shift gears since they have already played them only a month ago.
Roethlisberger had one of his worst games as a pro that week but he'll have Burress back to go against a secondary that has allowed each of their last four opponents to throw for two or more touchdowns. The Jets are tough against the run and the Steelers are not yet naming Bettis or Staley as the starter this week but it doesn't really matter. Both will play and if the weather does get bad, Bettis will likely be more successful as he already was in the previous game.
