The results from 2004 showing how many times a quarterback either threw 300 yards in a game, scored at least two touchdowns during a game or did either event in a game. “Plyd” refers to the number of games played by the individual.
Games with 300 yards passing: Trent Green was tops – not Peyton Manning. Kerry Collins managed four 300+ yard games in 2004 and that was without Randy Moss which is encouraging for what his offense may produce this year. The yardage barons as always include Brett Favre, Culpepper, Bulger and Manning. New comers to the top include Billy Volek (nice string of games against soft opponents last year), Brian Griese and Jake Delhomme. Notable too is that Byron Leftwich tied with Matt Hasselbeck and yet played most of the season with lingering injuries.
Games with two touchdowns or more: Both Tom Brady and Jake Delhomme tied with Daunte Culpepper with 11 games containing at least two scores while Brian Griese (64%), Drew Brees (60%) and Billy Volek (60%) all turned in more great scoring games than was ever expected last year. While Tom Brady didn’t end the year with the highest numbers, he and Jake Delhomme were both more valuable than any other quarterback besides Manning and Culpepper at turning in good games every week. These quarterbacks often had bigger games from bad match-ups that forced them to throw the ball much more than average. Brady is now a fantasy starter but rarely is drafted as high as his consistency suggests he is worth. And Delhomme is always a back-up fantasy quarterback but with numbers every week like in 2004, he should be one of the first taken.
