Draft by Team

The important thing to remember when drafting an 8 man team is that everyone will have depth, everyone will have good players. Figure that every team could have four running backs that are starters for their NFL team. The waiver wire is much hotter in an eight man league since there will be so many players on it. Figure that in this mock, there are already free agents like David Carr, Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich. There are receivers like Keyshawn Johnson, Donte Stallworth, Plaxico Burress and many more.

What an eight team draft means is that you HAVE to get difference makers. Merely having a solid team is not enough - everyone should have one. And unlike a 12 team draft, digging into all those available running backs rarely makes sense if you are delaying other position starters. You must have as many studs at every position as possible to make the crucial difference.

That said, the reviews are mainly looking for star power - not depth.

Plan: RB, QB, RB, WR, WR
Nice use of the front-end swing landed Tomlinson and then Culpepper and Julius Jones. Missed out on a top tier WR but landed Steve Smith and Roy Williams. Crumpler at TE should be solid.

Overall, ended up with the top top players from the highest scoring positions and solid for the rest of the team. With Tomlinson and Culpepper as major difference makers, this team should be a definite contender.

Starters: Culpepper, Tomlinson, J Jones, S Smith, R Williams, Bennett, Crumpler, Stover and ATL

Plan Grade: A-

Plan: RB, WR, RB, QB, TE
Have to like this team. Started with Alexander and then picked up Holt and Rudi Johnson for a good start. Bulger at the 4.07 may seem early in this format but in reality, he got the 4th best QB after a top tier RB and WR plus a very nice RB2. Witten also maybe a little early in other formats but in 8 team the value was there.

Overall, team ended up with a top 4 player in almost every category and a nice set of starters every week. Like team #1, this should also be a top contender though slightly less comparing Culpepper to Bulger. Still, this plan worked out very nicely.

Starters: Bulger, Alexander, R Johnson, Holt, S Moss, Porter, Witten, Vinatieri and PIT

Plan: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR
Took Manning at the 1.03 and still reached a very nice set of starting RB with Lewis and K Jones. Compare that trio with what a 12 team draft produces. Went mining WR with Wayne and Burleson and waiting on TE until the 10th still landed McMichael.

Overall, there is star power at QB and super solid starting RBs who should combine to post as good positional points as most any team. WR are solid with some upside and has BAL for DEF. Solid team that just needs some WRs to step up their game.

Starters: Manning,Lewis, K Jones, Wayne, Burleson, Bruce, McMichael, Longwell and BAL

Plan Grade: B+

Plan: RB, WR, TE, RB, RB
Went with Holmes at the 1.04 and paired him with Larry Johnson as a wise move. Harrison and Gonzalez are both big time difference makers and with RB depth of Martin and Jackson should be fine there. Picked up Favre to ensure at least average QB points.

Overall, this team is powered by top tier players Holmes, Harrison and Gonzalez and should be solid in all other categories. The difference that those three players should bring to the mix should be able to keep this team in the playoff run all year.

Starters: Favre, Holmes, Martin, Harrison, Boldin, J Smith, Gonzalez, Elam and CAR

Plan: RB, RB, WR, RB, WR
This is a standard plan that works well enough in an 8 team league. Started with James and Portis before still reaching Chad Johnson. Then snagged Ahman Green for RB3. Ward was followed with Shockey at TE to keep up the solid points.

Overall, waited until the 8.04 to get Collins at QB but the team would look better had he swapped 4.04 Green for Bulger and used the 8.04 to get Westbrook or Chris Brown. There is less need to jump on RB3 in this format. Also waited until the end for DEF and PK so no help there.

Starters: Collins, James, Portis, C Johnson, Ward, Coles, Shockey, Carney and TB

Plan Grade: B

Plan: WR, RB, TE, WR, WR
Loved how this risk taker made his moves pay off. Went with Randy Moss and then Domanick Davis before snapping up Gates and then drained good WR starters with Horn and Jackson. That still left Benson for RB2 in the 6th round! BUF at the 7.06 yet another difference maker.

Overall, top players in Moss and Gates and solid picks throughout. QB situation is fine with Hasselbeck and Palmer so long as one clearly out does the other and doesn't force weekly decisions. This team beefed up on WR and TE but has enough upside at RB and QB that he could be a contender in the league. Notice the quality in RB and QB he reached later in the draft than a 12 team league could dream of getting.

Starters: Hasselbeck, D Davis, Benson, R Moss, Horn, Jackson, Gates, Wilkins and BUF

Plan: RB, WR, QB, RB, TE
This team ended up with a Top 4 player in every position other than RB which was impossible drafting this deep. Went McGahee and Owens before grabbing McNabb and then Barber. Clark a nice addition and NE ensures above average DEF points. Even got the #1 kicker in Vanderjagt.

Overall, nice use of what he was given. Delayed RB3 until the 10th round and still landed Arrington. This was about as good as you could get drafting from this slot. Just missed out on Gonzo and Gates when he settled for McNabb and would have been very strong with them.

Starter: McNabb, McGahee, Barber, Owens, Clayton, Lelie, Clark, Vanderjagt and NE

Plan Grade: A

Plan: RB, RB, WR, WR, QB
Standard plan for the back-end swing that allowed him to get McAllister and Dillon, then Walker and Andre Johnson for a solid start though without any "star" power for having two swing picks. Green and then Heap was a nice value move.

Overall, a very solid team but in this format probably one that will end up in the middle as was most of his starting picks. No dogs of course in this format but a lack of difference makers will make rising above the middle hard to do unless expectations are very much exceeded. Liked the picks made for the positions taken, but mixing up and starting runs instead of following them

Starters: Green, McAllister, Dillon, Walker, A Johnson, Driver, Heap, Akers and PHI
