The following mock draft considered a standard performance scoring of 1/10 rush and receive yards, 1/20 passing yards, 2 point conversion are two fantasy points each participant, all touchdowns are six except passing is four. Kickers receive the NFL points from their kicks and defenses have one point sacks and turnovers, two point safeties and six point touchdowns. This scoring also rewards one point per reception and includes a flex position where the starting lineup of 2 RB, 2 WR, TE can have added an additional starter of either RB, WR or TE. This scoring is similar to what is used at

Draft by Team
Evaluating this scoring system applied to teams means considering what their flex position is and if they addressed the inclusion of reception points which skews some players up slightly. In a flex system, it would be ideal to have three good running backs not only from their scoring but from their consistency each week. But having a great crew of receivers can actually produce more points than running backs in this scoring system.

Plan: RB, RB, RB, WR, QB
Here is a standard approach to the first pick and it works pretty much this well in every league. Grabbing three top RBs first netted him Tomlinson, Jackson and Martin - very nice. He still managed to get Bulger at the 5.01 for a great start.
About the only thing not to like about this team is that his wideouts like Branch and Stokley will not likely fare as well since they do not catch a large volume of passes for those reception points. Akers is always a great PK pick and Cooley and IND will likely be good enough not to hurt him. This is a team with 3 RBs and a good QB - the highest scoring positions.
Starters: Bulger, Tomlinson, S. Jackson, C. Martin, Cooley, R. WIlliams, Branch, Stokley, Akers and IND
Plan Grade: B+ |
Plan: QB, WR, WR, TE, RB
The Manning pick was a surprise here though not a terrible one. The surprising thing was that he followed that with two WRs - Harrison and Driver and then went TE with Witten.
By the time he finally grabbed any RB's, he only ended up with Bennett and very likely no RB2. Nice upside on his other four RBs, but he'll need to land one of them to get a good starter. The selection of Shockey was another surprise and he could be used for a starter but without any top 20 RBs, this will be a very inconsistent team.
Starters: Manning, Bennett, T. Jones, Witten, Shockey, Harrison, Driver, Houshmandzadeh, Longwell and PHI

Plan: RB, RB, WR, WR, RB
Probably surprised to see Alexander, team went with Lamont Jordan for RB2 over more established backs like Jackson or Martin. Horn and Clayton should be very solid and score as well as most RBs.
Trent Green is a steal at the 7.03 and Staley at the 5.03 could be if he remains healthy. He gets almost no receptions though. Ended up with a solid team though without any real stars. Upside with Clark, Staley and Matt Jones. Not flashy but a good result.
Starters: Green, Alexander, Jordan, Staley, Dal. Clark, Horn, Clayton, Kennison, Carney and TB
Plan Grade: B |
Plan: RB, WR, RB, WR, WR
This approach snagged James and then Chad Johnson at the 2.09 (could have been Harrison) and then picked up Westbrook who scores well in this system. Burleson and Lelie filled out the rest of the starting WR.
Ended up with some very nice upside on Palmer, Burleson and Gore. PIT defense should be good and the only real hole on this team is PK which is no major contributor anyway. Waited a round too late to get TE and ended with Wiggins instead of McMichael the previous round. This roster has some nice upside that is hard to evaluate but that gives him room to grow. Outside of James, nothing flashy on this team but some upside to make the season interesting.
Starters: Palmer, James, Westbrook, M. Faulk, Wiggins, C. Johnson, Burleson, Lelie, J. Reed, PIT

Plan: RB, WR, WR, RB, TE
Started out with Holmes and was fortunate to still get Larry Johnson at the 8.08 pick. Owens and Wayne could be huge but waiting until the 4.08 made RB2 to be Dunn. Would have looked better with an RB at the 3.05 instead of Wayne that could have been Bell, Chris Brown or any rookie RB and then snag D. Jackson or Steve Smith with the 4th.
Favre at the 7.05 always a great value and Heap should be good if healthy. Overall, will have to rely on Holmes/Johnson to remain high scoring since there could be no back-up RB on this team. Vinatieri and CAR should be solid This looks like a team that went too heavy on WR with the 3rd round pick of WR2 and his RBs suffered for it.
Starters: Favre, Holmes, Dunn, Heap, Owens, R. Wayne, Engram, McCardell, Vinatieri and CAR
Plan Grade: B- |
Plan: RB, RB, RB, WR, WR
In this WCOFF-like scoring system with a flex slot, this plan is the most common and rarely works out poorly. Has McAllister, A. Green and Bell for RBs and then picked up Ward and Boldin for WR that will get those reception points at least. Evans as WR3 gets few passes but did do a lot with them last year.
Delhomme at QB is not a personal choice but hard to argue with. I like this plan and while the team is another "solid not spectacular" result, it is an attractive roster. Upside in literally every position for backups could make this team change starters through out the season.
Starters: Delhomme, McAllister, Green, Bell, E. Johnson, Ward, Boldin, Evans, Hanson and ATL

Plan: RB, RB, RB, WR, WR
Similar to team #6, the same initial plan had good results as well. McGahee, J. Jones and C. Brown are all starters and Steve Smith, Drew Bennett and Rod Smith are at least a good set of starting wideouts. Crumpler gives him a coveted top 8 TE that only cost a 7.07 pick.
Like the upside of Collins and Leftwich though both could disappoint. I like this team though hard to love it. This would be a fun team to manage with 3 good RB choices with backups and upside on WR depth. If either QB comes through as a top 10 player, this team could surprise.
Starters: Collins, McGahee, J. Jones, C. Brown, S. Smith, Bennett, R. Smith, Crumpler, Stover and CIN
Plan Grade: B+ |
Plan: RB, QB, RB, TE, RB
For the 8th pick, this came together very well. Domanick Davis plays well in this scoring and Culpepper top-notch at the 2.05. Benson offers a nice upside RB2 while Gates is a top TE. RB3 of Foster could pay big dividends and Bettis in the background is a great back-up.
Overall, it is hard not to love this team. Culpepper, Gates and Vanderjagt are three Tier 1 players and the RB's could combine for some nice weekly points. WRs are weaker than many teams, but is filled with possession type guys to get those reception points. This team would compete all season long.
Starters: Culpepper, D. Davis, Benson, Foster, Gates, Chambers, Mason, Burress, Vanderjagt and MIN

Plan: RB, WR, WR, WR, WR
Reception points must really matter to this team. After Lewis, went on a 4 WR tear and landed Holt, A. Johnson, D. Jackson and Porter for the best 4 WR set in the league. But that left RB2 as Barlow who was the final starting RB available or RB2 would end up a sore spot all season.
Brooks has always been underrated in fantasy terms and McMichael gives a solid TE starter. Missed Foster by one pick at the 5.08 and may be why he went with Porter instead of a RB there. This worked out better for this team than most would get away with by taking 4 WR in the first 5 picks but outside of Holt and possibly Andre Johnson, there are no players here that will likely fare better than an average starter will in their position.
Starters: Brooks, Lewis, Barlow, Holt, A. Johnson, D. Jackson, J. Porter, McMichael, Janikowski and HOU
Plan Grade: B- |
Plan: RB, RB, TE, RB, WR
Began with Portis and Barber before snatching Gonzalez at the 3.10 where he always seems to go. Still reached Ronnie Brown at the 4.03 yields a nice1-2-3 at RB. Coles and Bruce solid picks for WR though not likely difference makers.
Overall, tops at TE and DEF and has a solid set of starting RBs with Buckhalter as a nice RB4. Brady and Brees could make choosing a weekly starter difficult. This team has upside and some strength at RB, TE, DEF. If his QBs turn out a weekly stud, then this team will compete well. No holes on this team but needs QB and WR to sort out strongly to make the top echelon of teams.
Starters: Brady, Portis, Barber, R. Brown, Coles, Bruce, B. Edwards, Gonzalez, Graham and NE

Plan: WR, RB, RB, RB, WR
This team made a nice use of the 11th slot. Grabbed Randy Moss and Dillon and still reached Carnell Williams and Arrington at the 3-4 picks. Jimmy Smith should be at least average as a WR2 so a very nice start.
Overall, added Hasselbeck at the 8.02 for a nice value and some upside with L.J. Smith at TE. BAL always a great DEF and Elam always a solid PK choice. Has upside at QB/TE and solid at RB, WR, PK and DEF. For an 11th pick, this plan worked out rather well. There is risk here but upside to make it worthwhile.
Starters: Hasselbeck, DIllon, C Williams, Arrington, R. Moss, J. Smith, M. Muhammad, L. Smith, Elam and BAL

Plan: RB, RB, QB, WR, WR
Started out the back-end swing with K. Jones and R. Johnson and yet still reached McNabb at the 3.12 - nice value. Walker at the 4.01 a good value but Fitzgerald at the 5.12 a bit of a surprise given he could have been Dallas Clark or Shockey or Bruce or Muhammad or a lot of other players really.
Vick as QB2 was sweet and BUF at the 8.01 a nice pick. Overall, needs Taylor to be healthy or Colbert is the flex player which is not ideal. There is upside with Troupe though he is a better TE2. RB depth a bit thinner than would be desirable and taking McNabb was nice but cost him some depth compared to other teams.
Starters: McNabb, K. Jones, R. Johnson, F. Taylor, J. Walker, L. Fitzgerald, E. Moulds, Troupe, J. Brown and BUF
Plan Grade: B
