2005 was an odd season for quarterbacks since several of those who had played best in recent years were injured for much of the season – Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb and Marc Bulger. While Culpepper was floundering prior to being injured, both McNabb and Bulger had been performing at their high level. McNabb returns this season to start over without Terrell Owens and though Bulger comes back to the same cast, his head coach and offensive coordinator have changed. That pretty much leaves Peyton Manning as the lone top quarterback who should be entering 2006 without any question marks.
Byron Leftwich missed five games and played injured for a couple (though that is not uncommon for him) and yet he still ended ranked 10th in consistency. The 2005 Super Bowl was well represented here as well, with both Roethlisberger and Delhomme ending with a top 7 ranking. The biggest surprises here – both Drew Bledsoe and Eli Manning ended far lower in consistency than they did in fantasy points thanks to several big games early in the season. The value of this analysis is washing away overall statistics to see which players delivered the best each week of the season that they played.
