The introduction of a "Full Flex" to the starting lineup had significant changes in how people drafted. Since you could start just two wideouts and yet three running backs or two quarterbacks, the draft order got mixed up and a lot more quarterbacks and many less wideouts than in any other mock draft we have had. With so many potential flex players, it makes reviewing teams a bit harder to do.

| Started: RB, RB, WR, WR, QB
Unlike most drafts, the #1 position had no chance at TE Gates or a top seven WR, so he went with best value in RB Chester Taylor and grabbed Boldin before the WR became painfully thin. Was able to reach Mason at the 4.12 pick and then snagged McNabb with his 5.01 pick. In most drafts, that could be the #2 or #3 QB taken. In this one - McNabb was the 8th one taken.
Opted for Witten with his 6th pick and later Steelers in the 9th. Liked backing up both Johnson and Taylor but his flex is not going to be a RB. This plan produced a solid team but the full flex position stripped out the elite players from non-RB positions and negated much of the blessing of going first. Johnson was really the only top difference maker he was able to reach - quite a change from other mocks.
Plan Grade: B+ |
Started: RB, WR, QB, TE, WR
Unlike team #1, this drafter went for difference makers but had to sacrifice RB2 to get there. Had Tomlinson first and then WR Harrison and early pick on QB Brady with the 3.02. Next QB went a full round later. At the 4.11, once again went for a difference maker and snagged TE Heap instead of taking a RB which could have been Dillon, Foster or a CHI RB. Once again, went elsewhere with the 5.02 and grabbed Burress for WR2 before his RB2.
Used next two picks to secure a RB2 by taking both Chris Brown and LenDale White. He'll have one RB for sure but it may take time to decide which one to start. QB Vick in the 8th round was likely a steal. Ended up with a very nice team that has Brady, Tomlinson, Heap and the TEN rushing game. If one of those Titans step up - he'll be a great team. Otherwise, he'll have a hole that will be almost impossible to fill at RB.

Interesting use of one of the coveted top three draft picks. Naturally Drafted Alexander and then got TE Gates at the 2.10 for a nice coup considering that six wideouts had already been taken. Still reached Julius Jones with the 3.03 and then WR1 was Roy Williams with the 4.10. Grabbed Brooks with the 5.03 pick.
WR2 came next with Evans and Dayne is the 7th could be a surprise. doubled on QB with Rivers and Carr and one of the few teams with two defenses. Ended up with two good starting RB's and then at least some potential in Dayne. Top TE and at least decent WR's means this team will compete, particularly if he gets a surprise from QB Rivers. Team has some potential.
Plan Grade: B |
Started: RB, WR, RB, QB, TE
Normally the 4th spot is one that ends up just outside getting top players but this team came together well in this scoring system. Went with RB Portis and then WR Fitzgerald for a good start and still reached Droughns with the 3.04. That could have been Kevin Jones or Willie Parker depending on personal preference. Where this plan really worked well was starting in the 4th round when he grabbed Bledsoe and then TE Shockey.
Found DeAngelo Williams with his 6th round pick and then went with QB Culpepper in the 7th that could be a steal if he comes around. Waited until the end to get DEF or PK but still reached Giants and Stover for at least average numbers. Taking two QB's by the 7th round could prove a bog benefit in this scoring system and if DeAngelo Williams can unseat Foster (or watch him get hurt), this could be a very good team..

This scoring scenario seems to favor the middle of the draft. Have to love getting RB James and then Randy Moss and still reached Kevin Jones with the 3.05 pick. With the core there, was able to reach Bulger (4th) and then Gonzalez (5th) for a very nice start indeed.
Like team #4, used 7th round pick for Trent Green and has some nice firepower for starting two QB's. Waited until the end for PK and DEF but it hurt less here since hardly anyone grabbed back-ups from those positions. Could have a hole at RB if Ahman Green falters but otherwise has the big guns in the right positions and ended up with a solid team. Only concern here is the age and injury concerns of several top players but have to like the set of starters it produced.
Plan Grade: A- |
Started: RB, RB, WR, QB, WR
Starting out with Barber and Davis covered his RB;s and then found Reggie Wayne at the 3.06 that would have been an elite WR in most other drafts. Eli Manning a nice find with the 4.03 and then Andre Johnson fills out the starting core.
Surprisingly took Favre and then top DEF in Carolina and then yet again went QB with Charlie Frye. Amazingly still reached Fred Taylor who fell until the 10th round in this draft. Jacobs backs up Barber and even waiting until the 15th round still landed Shayne Graham at PK. Definitely will use two QBs and went with high risk, high upside Vernon Davis. If this team comes together right, it could be one of the better ones in the league but was aided by a few fortunate dropping of players.

Started: RB, QB, RB, WR, WR
Was able to get RB Jackson in the first and still reached Peyton Manning with the 2.06 pick. That left him with Willie Parker for RB - a good bit better than what taking Manning in the first leaves in most leagues. Doubled up on WR while he still could and came away with Jackson and Hines Ward. Great QB and solid elsewhere for a good start.
Next two moves strengthens the team more by taking both Dillon and Maroney ensuring the flex to be the NE RB. That left only McMichael left at TE and later Brad Johnson and Vince Young for more depth at QB. Overall, the starters are at least average but like most other drafts, this team is Manning and just a supporting cast. Good team but without many true playmakers.
Plan Grade: B |
Started: RB, RB, RB, WR, QB
The chance to start three running backs was too big of a draw for this plan to avoid and he started out with Brown, McGahee and Lewis. Nice set of RB's to be sure though none will make much use of the reception points and could be below average what others have. Chambers (4th) and Delhomme (5th) were needed picks even though they only resulted in fairly mediocre starters.
Santana Moss went in the 6th and with Chambers makes two great WR from last year that are almost certain to be no better and perhaps much worse this year. McNair in the 7th a nice potential flex player if Lewis doesn't hold up. Ended up with a solid team but has possibly no players in the top 5 of any position. Makes it hard to compete with teams that do.

This plan started with Cadillac and then took Holt. Next two picks went for RBs with Addai and Gore before Crumpler in the 5th grants him an above average tight end.
Picked up Warner in the 6th but never took Leinart for insurance but did add Kitna in the 9th. This is an interest roster that the plan created. Sort of a Boolean team because it is filled with "if...then" players. If Warner, Kitna, Cadillac, Addai and Gore all hit - this is a great team. If not, then the team will struggle. Liked the Addai/Rhodes ploy that only cost a 3rd and a 7th. Lot of risk here and a lot of upside too.

While I may not have personally agreed which player was taken in many cases, hard to consider this plan as anything less than good and could be very good. Went with Jordan and then Owens before snapping up Reggie Bush with the 3.10 - probably a little early but getting McAllister makes the move okay.
Liked Hasselbeck in the 4th before everyone went nuts on QB and Brees in the 7th likely a good backup though probably not the flex guy. CHI defense should offer some advantage as well as will Elam. Overall, I liked this plan a lot though I would have taken other players when he drafted certain positions. That doesn't matter - the plan worked very well other than not giving him a clear cut flex player.

Nice start at the end of the draft netted RB Westbrook (backed up with Moats) and Chad Johnson. Reasonably grabbed Warrick Dunn for RB2 at the 3.11 and then nice play on Carson Palmer with the 4.02 - that could be a steal if Palmer does not have lingering issues from his knee injury. Particularly liked grabbing the CHI tandem of Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson at the 5/6 turn.
Waited on TE to only get Ben Watson but the CHI RB ploy used up his chance for an above average TE. Overall a solid team with some upside though only Chad Johnson is a known playmaker. The plan worked reasonably well but will need some good luck on players exceeding expectation to shine.

Started: RB, WR, RB, WR, TE
This is plan started the same as team #11 when he grabbed Rudi Johnson and then Steve Smith and then Tatum Bell at the 3.12 (without Dayne to insure the pick). Instead of mining higher scoring RB and QB, went with Driver for WR2 and then L.J. Smith who should be at least average at TE and potentially better.
Grabbed a third RB at the 6.01 pick and got Foster (though missed DeAngelo Williams) and that pick could have been Warner, Plummer, Green or Culpepper. Instead waited until the 7.12 to get a QB and found only Byron Leftwich. Went with Roethlisberger two rounds later for QB2. Overall, does have a top PK and WR but the rest of the roster looks more average than needed, particularly at QB that you could not wait to get in this scoring scenario. A good team, but will have a major challenge to rise that much above average.
