August 25, 2006

The following actual draft considered a standard performance scoring of 1/10 rush and receive yards, 1/20 passing yards, 2 point conversion are two fantasy points each participant, all touchdowns are six except passing is four with one point taken away for an interception. Started: RB, WR, WR, QB, WR

Must have been rather proud of the Larry Johnson pick because he waited five more rounds to get his RB2. Went with Boldin and Randy Moss at the 2/3 turn which was tempting enough but then opted for Carson Palmer in the 4th and Galloway in the 5th as WR3. By the time he finally returned to RB, only added Addai, Green and Barlow in three of the next four picks.

Ended up with a great RB1 and almost no RB2, a great set of WR and a QB who could be tops if he remains healthy. Doubling on TE in the 9th and 10th rounds was another surprise and not the least of which was that Crumpler lasted until the 10th and went after Vernon Davis. Thanks to reception points, this team will compete but if LJ gets hurt or really fails to meet expectations, this team could be in trouble.

Plan Grade: C+

Started: RB, RB, TE, WR, RB

Team had a truly terrific four player start with Alexander followed by Portis who fell much too far in a ten team league regardless of his shoulder. Gates hopped on at the 3.02 and then Jackson as WR1 was best available. But then the team took a left turn for a while.

Opted for risky Domanick Davis in the 5th and then risky Culpepper in the 6th. Andre Johnson and Muhammad solid enough for average production and took risky Vick as QB2. Have to love how this started out and other than the Davis pick (which could be a waste) this team has some definite firepower though risky in too many areas. With safer players, this plan would shine, particularly with a change in the 5th round.

Started out naturally with Tomlinson and then added Owens and Kevin Jones for a decent yet risky start. Hasselbeck in the 4th was a great add but then went for Droughns in the 5th for a back-up RB with five starting slots still open.

Liked the Steelers pick in the 11th and team has some solid depth in almost all positions but the #3 pick should have more star power than this in a ten team league and Owens is a major risk presently. It is a solid plan until the 5th round again. Hard to see starting RBs on the board still but it can cost you in other areas.

Plan Grade: B

Started: RB, WR, RB, WR, TE

While this team did not start with a bang, grabbing Barber and Harrison gave him a solid and safe beginning and then Westbrook should deliver well with the reception points. Shocker at the 5.04 was a tremendous grab and makes this a rock solid start.

Finding Eli Manning in the 7th is almost larceny. Loved the upside of White, Lundy, Gado and Miller. Just a rock solid team that should produce consistent points each week.

While this team opted for the RB3 with the fifth pick, he certainly got away with it. Went with Ronnie Brown and then Holt for a big start and then added Parker and Driver for a great start. Foster was a decent add but was made far better with getting DeAngelo Williams as well.

Still - was able to reach Heap and Bulger which were major coups at this part of the draft and a very nice start indeed. Warner is a tremendous QB2 and the CAR defense at the 11.05 was huge as well. Team stepped through his plan with some amazing results.

Plan Grade: A

Started: RB, WR, RB, WR, RB

Followed the same plan as team #5 with Steven Jackson and then Fitzgerald. Took a swing at the fence with Bush and then added Hines Ward. Went for RB3 with Jamal Lewis but then opted for RB4 with Maroney in the 6th. That delayed other positions but a smaller league meant it did not hurt so much.

Ended up with Gonzalez at TE and Delhomme as QB - solid but hardly a difference maker for this small of a league. QB Green was a prudent add. Rest of the roster is solid enough but team #5 handled the picks from sixth onward much better.

Always a solid plan and this worked out as expected. Went with James and then Steve Smith, then Dunn and Santana Moss. In the 5th still landed Tom Brady for a difference maker at QB that did not cost much.

Doubled up on RB next to get Benson and Brown for a solid set of back-ups. Both Witten and L.J. Smith should be good enough that figuring out which one to use may be challenging. Nothing flashy here really but a rock solid team other than DEF.

Plan Grade: A-

Started: RB, WR, RB, RB, RB

"I just cannot stop taking... RBs... help..." Went with Cadillac and then Chad Johnson for a tremendous start but then went mining RBs to get Julius Jones, Dillon and Gore. All great picks but that was two back-up RB's before almost any other position was drafted. Trade bait - maybe. But in a ten team league there is less needs.

Delaying everything else meant the rest of the roster is average at best and below average at most. Some nice picks but some sorely missed opportunities to build a better team and not an RB farm.

have to love how this worked. Started with Jordan which is the weakest RB1 in the league but then nabbed Peyton Manning. Followed that with Taylor at RB2 and then doubled on wideouts to net Roy Williams and Rod Smith.

Scooped early to get CHI for an advantage at DEF and did the same with Vinatieri at PK. Cooley should be solid at TE. Ended up with a team super strong at all positions other than RB and WR which is not ideal but a play for difference makers that were available. If Rhodes comes through, this team could surprise.

Plan Grade: A-

Started: RB, RB, WR, WR, RB

The back-end turn and the team played it ultra safe by taking Rudi Johnson and McGahee. Solid to be sure, maybe a little boring and together probably average. Wayne and Chambers shows the quality of WR in a smaller league and then Mike Bell and Fred Taylor provide RB back-up. The Taylor pick in particular seems a waste and a big price to pay.

Ended up with pretty much average players in every position. The team is not bad, it just never once made use of the swing picks to start a run. Just followed the leader and ended up with a solid but very unspectacular team.

Plan Grade: B-
