Sunday Evening Injury Recap - Week 8

The following is a brief recap of the injuries occurring during Sunday games. A complete detailed injury report (Training Room Injury Report) will be published on Tuesday.

Marc Bulger, QB, STL
Sprained Thumb - Bulger left Sunday's game in the third quarter with a sprained thumb but after missing one series he was able to return to the game. The severity of the injury and his status for the team's next game in Week 10 is currently unknown.

Reggie Bush, RB, NO
Strained Hip Flexor - Bush strained his hip flexor in second half and left the game mid way through the fourth quarter. He did not return. Several media outlets are reporting it as an abdominal injury, however team officials are calling it a hip flexor strain. The severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are currently unknown.

Laveranues Coles, WR, NYJ
Undisclosed Injury - Coles left game in the fourth quarter after being hit after a reception and had to be helped off the field. He did not return to the game and the severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are unknown.

Trent Edwards, QB, BUF
Wrist Injury - Edwards left Sunday's game in the third quarter with a sprained wrist and did not return to the game. X-rays taken at the stadium were negative. He'll be re-evaluated on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and his status for the team's next game.

Frank Gore, RB, SF
Sprained Ankle - Gore aggravated his sprained ankle in the third quarter of today's game and did not return to the field. Gore did not take part in pre game warm-ups because of his bad ankle but was in the starting lineup anyway. The severity of the injury is currently unknown but the 49ers could consider keeping him out for at least a week to give his ankle a chance to heal.

Kelly Holcomb, QB, MIN
Neck Injury - Holcomb left Sunday's game after hurting his neck. He appeared to be in discomfort on the sideline and did not return to the game. The severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are currently unknown.

Steven Jackson, RB, STL
Lower Back Injury - Jackson left Sunday's game after hurting his back in the second quarter and did not return. He complained of back spasms after the game, however the severity of the injury and his status for the team's next game in Week 10 are currently unknown.

Greg Lewis, WR, PHI
Rib Injury - Lewis left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game after falling on his side and did not return. He was in a lot of pain on the sideline and the medical staff appeared to examine his ribs. The severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are currently unknown.

Clinton Portis, RB, WAS
Undisclosed Hand Injury - Portis left Sunday's game in the second quarter after hurting his hand while trying to recover a fumble. He left the game but returned on the team's next offensive possession. The injury does not appear to be severe, but we should know more about his status for Week 9 after he is examined on Monday.

Matt Schaub, QB, HOU
Concussion - Schaub left Sunday's game with what appeared to be a concussion and did not return. Schaub was seen rubbing his temples on the sideline and it looked like he was dizzy and confused. The severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are currently unknown.

Vinny Testaverde, QB, CAR
Ankle Injury - Testaverde left Sunday's game after hurting his ankle in the third quarter and did not return. There are reports that the injury is to his Achilles' tendon, but we should know more about his status for Week 9 after he undergoes an evaluation on Monday.

Bobby Wade, WR, MIN
Sprained Knee - Wade left Sunday's game after hyperextending his knee and did not return. The team is calling the injury a sprain, however the severity of the injury and his status for Week 9 are currently unknown.

Kenny Watson, RB, CIN
Head Injury - Backup Watson started Sunday but was unable to finish the game after leaving with a head injury. He'll be re-evaluated on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and his status for next week.
