IDP Sleepers - Week 1

Welcome to another season of The Huddle’s IDP Sleeper Report.  Hopefully you were able to grab some key sleepers last season that led you to championships.  This season will be more of the same:  a few linebackers, defensive linemen and defensive backs that may be on your league’s waiver wire who are poised to put up decent stats this week.  Feel free to email me if you want to discuss IDP sleepers.  Contact me at huddledarin@yahoo.com

LINEBACKERS

Adalius Thomas (NEP):  Thomas ranks as the preseason #50 LB, but he could easily put up double-digit points this week.  Facing a weak Kansas City offense will definitely pump up the Patriot IDP stats.

Stewart Bradley (PHI):  Bradley nearly made it onto The Huddle’s preseason top-50, as he’s manning the middle for the Eagles linebackers.  He’s only a 2nd year player, so there should be some growing pains, but he should rack up 6-7 solos facing the Rams.

Other to Consider:  Keith Brooking (ATL)

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

Ty Warren (DE – NEP):   It’s a popular week to have Patriot IDPs.  They’re hungry to get back onto the field after a disappointing Super Bowl loss, and they’re facing quite possibly one of the worse offenses in the NFL.  Expect Warren to put up close to 10 fantasy points this week.  He led off the 2007 season with 7.5 fantasy points against the Jets.  Expect the same, if not more, in this season’s kickoff game.

Darnell Dockett (DE – WAS):  It’s a shame Dockett has lost his DT eligibility (in many league management sites), as he was one of the better options at DT in leagues that force you to start DT as well as DE.  In any case, Dockett should start the season out with a bang facing the hapless Niners.  The Cards opened with the Niners in 2007, and Docket had 5 total tackles and a sack.  Expect those kinds of numbers once again.

Others to Consider:  None

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Jim Leonhard  (S – BAL):  With Ed Reed still ailing, Leonhard gets the nod at free safety for the Ravens.  When Leonhard opened the ’07 season as the Bills’ starting FS, he put up 22.25 fantasy points.

Eric Wright (CB – CLE):  Need a good sleeper CB this week?  Look no further.  Wright will be shadowing TO come Sunday and should have many opportunities to defend passes and make some tackles.

Other to Consider:  Phillip Buchanon (CB - TBB)

Notes:

Scoring system used for this report – solo tackle (2), assisted tackle (1), sack (3), forced or recovered fumble (3), interception (3) and pass defensed (1)

The “sleepers” this week were pulled from The Huddle’s IDP preseason rankings and ranked #35 and lower.  In forthcoming weeks, the sleepers will be pulled from various leagues’ free agent lists.

Each forthcoming week, we’ll offer a “report card” to see how the previous week’s sleepers fared, and will offer commentary on the sleeper’s longer-term prospects.
