Welcome to the Week 9 installment of The Huddle’s IDP Deeper Sleepers. This bi-weekly article will highlight some sleepers on the IDP side that are backing up injury-prone starters or that have a chance down the road to put up solid fantasy stats. Should you want to discuss IDP sleepers, deep or otherwise, feel free to email me at email@example.com.
Geno Hayes (TBB): Barrett Ruud has been pretty good in the starting spot at MLB for the Bucs, but he’s injured right now and Adam Hayward is only average. Hayes has good size and has the NFL pedigree. He can also play the outside LB (weak) and he’ll probably come somewhat cheap in your dynasty leagues. He’s one to target.
Desmond Bishop (GBP): Bishop has been a sleeper favorite of mine since he was drafted. I watched him pile up tackles for Cal in college and knew he’d be playing on Sundays. Sure, there’s a logjam of good LBs in Green Bay, but with all the injuries A.J. Hawk and Nick Barnett seem to have, you never know which young LB will step up.
Charles Johnson (DE – CAR): He’s probably taken in dynasty leagues, but is likely available in large re-drafts. Johnson is hardly the model of consistency but has shown that he can put up big numbers. If you’re a Peppers owner and have room for a backup, Johnson is your guy.
Elvis Dumervil (DE – DEN): Like Johnson, Dumervil is likely gone in dynasty formats but could be on many free agents lists. He’s been somewhat nicked up since the start of the season and hasn’t done much at all this season. He had a big Week 7 and could put up decent stats this week as well.
Zack Bowman (CB – CHI): This call is for dynasty owners only, as Bowman, after being called up from the practice squad, was put on IR. This was after a huge game, too. If he’s on your league’s FA list, go grab him. If he’s stashed on someone’s roster, you might be able to dump some salary on him for the young Bear CB. Charles Tillman won’t last in Chicago forever.
Dunta Robinson (CB – HOU): This one’s for not only dynasty owners, but those in redrafts as well. Robinson started the season on the injured list, but has come back with a bang halfway through the season. His 21 fantasy points last week are likely a sign of things to come.
Notes: Scoring system used for this report – solo tackle (2), assisted tackle (1), sack (3), forced or recovered fumble (3), interception (3) and pass defensed (1).
