IDP Weekly Player Rankings - Week 5
Darin Tietgen
October 8, 2009
Comments Comments       Print this page Print

You will notice that our weekly rankings are now "tiered", or broken apart into similarly-ranked groups.  For example, the drop-off from, say, David Harris to Kirk Morrison isn't really that huge because they are in the same tier.  Use the tiering as a supplement to these rankings to assist you in your lineup decisions.  And as with all fantasy rankings, they are simply a guide to predict potential performance, not a guarantee.  Good luck this week, and hope there's a "W" in your future!

Honestly, how can Gaines Adams remain on this list at all? Complete bust.

How do you get Quentin Mikell as a top 3 DB this week playing against Tampa Bay and Josh Johnson? The Philly defense will hardly be on the field.

Chris Hope as the top DB. I just feel this is a week where he doesn't get the types of opportunities he would usually get. Can only play one, and am leaning towards L. Landry over Hope.

12 team league, start (1) LB....He hasn't been top 12 material..Not that he isn't capable, he just hasn't been performing......Not fun looking at all the other LB's on the waiver outperforming week in and week out

Dropped DeMeco Ryans? Not sure what kind of league you're in where that would even be a consideration. Ryans has been one of the best fantasy LBs in the game for the past 3 seasons and consistently has matchups that are favorable. In 12-16 team leagues that start 3 LBs, 3 DLs and 3 DBs (which is standard, at least by our sampling), he still has to be considered a #1 fantasy LB.

I agree 100% with Bob K. At least they dropped him from the #2 slot here. He is always projected way too high. I mean I know it's a guessing game, but week after week the guy is supposed to do good. I also dropped him, and think he should be even lower than he is currently ranked. I am ready for him to blow up, just because I dropped him. Happens every time

How does Demeco Ryans keep getting such a high rating? He's not even the leading tackler on his team. I dropped him this week. Three or four tackles a week just doesn't cut it. Has the defense changed their scheme so he doesn't get as many opportunities or has it been bad luck from the match ups?

Pace is definitely going to help the Jets' pass rush, and I considered ranking him this week, but LB is pretty deep, even with bye weeks. I'd give Pace a week to get back to game speed.

As for Horton vs. Doughty, T.J. is right; Horton will be seeing plenty of time on the field even with Doughty starting. This happened last year, too, and Horton continued to score. I considered ranking Doughty as well (likely in the fifth tier of DBs) this week, but think Horton is better suited to assist in stopping the run. The Bucs gave the ball to RBs only 23 times last week. You think Carolina's gonna run the ball more than 23 times? I do.

And again, these rankings are merely a guide for potential performance. Doughty, as I mentioned, could have found his way to the rankings, but I prefer to rank based on consistency.

Well Horton is still gonna see plenty of action. He had 7.5 points in my league last week. Doughty actually had 10 solos but I doubt he will do any better than Horton this week!

Chris Horton ranked, Doughty not, yet Doughty took the starting job from Horton last week and posted 9 solos. What gives????

whats the thought on Calvin Pace's return? Should he factor in these rankings?
